music for when you need to do stuff

Original post: https://tozka.dreamwidth.org/31294.html

Whenever I do something on the computer, I usually want to have some kind of sound in the background. It helps me focus, and it's nicer than a silent room.

Here's some resources I use when I don't just want to listen to my own music collection:

musicForProgramming, not necessarily music so much as sounds to “aid prolonged periods of intense concentration” which is a mix of static noise, electronic music, and early kinds of music (lutes!) with few drums and vocals. Downloadable to your computer, which is handy!

myNoise, customizable white noise and relaxing sounds. (Found via runpunkrun) I really like the combo of nature noises and music, like in in this soundscape.

ChilledCow's lofi hip hop radio, which I actually can't relax to or concentrate with because of the heavy beats, but maybe you can? There's also Chillhop Music's lofi hip hop radio, which has a slightly different range of songs. Both are livestreaming Youtube channels.

Listen to a Movie, i.e. the entire audio of many movies available for streaming or download. I actually like this one for writing blog posts or doing computer tasks; I always listen to movies I've already seen multiple times, and I don't even hear the words so much as the familiar sounds/cadences/etc.

Relaxdaily, streamed from a host in France. Four different sounds, including morning, focus, sleep and piano. All four are pretty heavy on piano, but more in the “modern meditation sounds” style and less of classical.
